07:46 am - The SFFANZ Discussion Forum
This is sffanz_discuss, a discussion group for members of the Science Fiction And Fantasy Association of New Zealand (SFFANZ). If you are interested in finding out more about SFFANZ, please visit the web site at http://www.sffanz.org.nz.
Members of SFFANZ are invited to take part in the discussion of SFFANZ related topics on this live journal site. The topics under discussion will be those that have been raised at SFFANZ Annual General Meetings (particularly the meeting held in 2008), but which were unable to be fully explored in the time available at those meetings.
The consensus opinions expressed in the discussions on this site will form the basis of motions to be presented at future AGMs.
The discussion can only be viewed and contributed to by people who are on the live journal friends list of sffanz_discuss.
If you wish to take part in the discussion, you must first set up a live journal identity for yourself (visit http://livejournal.com for information on how to do this).
Once you have a valid live journal identity, use it to send a message to this journal site (sffanz_discuss) requesting to be added to to the sffanz_discuss friends list. Please include your real name in the message that you send. We will check your name against the SFFANZ membership list and if you are a SFFANZ member, we will add you to the friends list. From that point on you will be able to view the topics under discussion and you will be able to contribute to the discussion.
To send a message asking to be added to the list, you must go through the following steps:
- Login to your live journal
- If you have a link called "Manage Entries" near the top of the screen, click on it. Depending on exactly where you were in the journal when you logged in, you may not see a "Managing Entries" link. If you don't see one, click on "Home" instead. The "Home" link will be on the top left of the page.
- Click on "Messages" (a link somewhere near the top of the page). You might also see a link called "Inbox" in the middle on the left. You could click on that instead. Both "Messages" and "Inbox" take you to the same place.
- Click on "New Message"
- Type "sffanz_discuss" in the "To:" field
- Type "Add me to the list" in the "Subject:" field
- Type your full name in the body of the message
- Click "Send"
Once your request has been processed, you will receive an email telling you that you are on the sffanz_discuss friends list. At that point, you will be able to see and take part in the discussion. Note that you will not be able to see or take part in the discussion until you have been added to the friends list.
For those people new to Live Journal, the discussion mechanism works like this:
Once you have been added to the sffanz_discuss friends list, log on to Live Journal with your Live Journal name and password and visit the sffanz_discuss site (this site; the one you are reading now). You will be able to see topics of conversation posted by the SFFANZ board. You cannot start new topics of conversation but you can leave comments on the existing topics and you can make comments on other people's comments.
To make a comment on a topic, click on the link marked "Leave a Comment" at the bottom of the piece you wish to comment on. To make a comment on a comment, click on the link marked "Reply to This" at the bottom of the comment. In both cases, you will be presented with a box into which you can type your remarks. Click on the button marked "Post Comment" to save your comment.
Should any topic attract a large number of comments, the comment threads may be collapsed for the purposes of display. In other words, you will know that the comments are there, but you won't be able to see them! If this happens, simply click on a link called "Threads" and the comments will open up again.
Note that you do not (and can not) post comments from your own live journal site. You must visit the sffanz_discuss site and post comments from there.
